PTE Core is an approved English test for Express Entry. Unlike CELPIP, its score numbers do not directly match CLB labels, so candidates should use the official ranges for each ability.

For CLB 9, current IRCC ranges are Speaking 84–88, Listening 82–88, Reading 78–87 and Writing 88–89. Do not use a PTE Academic conversion chart for an Express Entry PTE Core result.

Why the four PTE targets differ
IRCC maps each PTE Core ability to CLB using its own score range. That is why the minimum number for a CLB level can differ between Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking.
Plan around your weakest PTE skill
If one ability remains below the desired CLB range, higher scores in the other abilities do not simply average it away for program thresholds.
Canada immigration note: For Express Entry, IRCC currently lists CELPIP-General, IELTS General Training and PTE Core as approved English tests. Duolingo English Test is not on that Express Entry approved-test list. Always confirm the latest requirement for your exact immigration or admission pathway before booking.
